Breast implants

Procedure

Resizing and reshaping of the breast is called the breast augmentation, it is also known as augmentation mammoplasty, and it is usually done in order to enlarge the breast. The patient must wore a specific bra within a week or two as instructed by the surgeon. Breast implants can balance the asymmetry of the breast that can result of mastectomy. It is inserted through incisions on the breast. When we say breast reconstruction it is the kind of operation that is usually done for the patients who has cancer that results to the removal of their breast. They are not aware that the reconstruction of their breast is still possible through the help of plastic surgery. By removing the excess fat from the other part of the body or prosthesis is the procedure of reconstructing the breast. This is covered by state insurance. Now, there’s no reason for these patients to be depressed because of losing their breasts due to cancer.

Risks and side effects
If the patient feels that the implant is hard and dense and the scar tissue contracts, she might be suffering the capsular contracture which is the most common side effect of the breast implant. The replacements of implant, removing of the scar tissue or the total removal of the implant are the possible solutions. Breast implants may increase and decrease the sensitivity of nipples. The uneven positioned of nipples and wide scars are usually caused of breast lift. Breast feeding is impossible after the breast reduction surgery due to the removal of the milk ducts. Hematoma, swelling, excessive sensitivity, and bleeding are the other side effects of the breast implants. Minimal contact with the breast is required 2 weeks after the surgery.

Breast reduction

Breast implants and breast reduction are completely different from each other. Breast implants is for those who wish to enlarge their breasts while breast reduction is for those who wants to reduce the size of their breasts.
If the patient is experiencing severe back pain, poor posture and suffers from breathing problems, the patient might need to undergo a breast reduction. It is the process of reducing the large size of the breast. Breast reduction operation is the reduction of breast volume by making an incision around the areola and making a vertical cut from the nipple down to the crease of the breasts. Breast reduction procedure removes the excess fat from the lower part of the breast. It can return to it’s original size after pregnancy or if the patient gained weight. After this, the patient is required to undergo a breast lift, it is needed to achieve the proper position of the breasts.

Risks and side effects
After the surgery, breast feeding may not be possible due to the removal of milk ducts that lead to the nipples. Contour irregularities and mammoplasty may also occur.

Breast lift

Unlike breast implants, breast lift is usually done without using an implant. It is the procedure of reshaping and raising the breast. The number of incision is made depends upon the degree of sagging, meaning the greater the sagging, more incisions required. Periareolar incision is for the patients who need small scale of the breast. Anchor incision is the combination of three incision, first is around the areola that designating a new position of the nipple; second is vertical run from the base of the nipple to the bottom of the breast; and lastly, incision above the fold of the underside of the breast. The nipple should remain intact with the underlying connective tissue, nerves and blood supply that results to loss of sensation.

• Removal of stitches: 10 days and;
• Scar tissue healing period: 12-18 months

Risks and side effects
Reaction of the anesthesia, infection, bleeding and scarring are the common side effects of this surgery. It can be minimized with the proper care and right preparation for the operation.

Breast male reduction (gynecomastia)

Males may also need breast reduction. If you don’t want to look like a shemale, then you need to undergo breast reduction. Small incisions are made around the areola and in few sites of the chest. The small tube so called, cannula is inserted in areas of incision and its function is the removal of the fat out by sucking it out. There are also instances that the glandular tissue is removed around the boarder of the nipple. Through the help of the self suture material the nipple is sewn up, and must be contoured and tightened. On the first five days, avoid heavy activities. 2 -3 weeks ,you can get back to your normal activities and begin your work out after 6 weeks.

Risks and side effects
Infection, fluid accumulations, injury to skin, bagginess of the skin or rippling, and asymmetry are the common side effects as well as the pigment changes that can be permanent due to the too much exposure to the sun and the excessive scarring if tissue is cut away. A following procedure may be required to remove additional tissue.
